There are strong connections between Dumfries and Norway, especially dating from World War II. By 1940, the Nazis had overrun Norway; many men from the Norwegian army and others sought safety in Scotland. Hundreds were welcomed into Dumfries, which became the headquarters of the Norwegian Free Army. A good number were billeted in Rosefield Mills, 85 years ago.
The film 'The Heroes of Telemark' celebrates the efforts of Norwegians to prevent the Nazis developing the atom bomb. Judith Hewitt, Museums Curator, will introduce the film and show a pair of original Norwegian skis from the period.
Richard Polley, Rosefield Mills Project Co-ordinator, will give an update on the Mills. All tickets are £5 per person.
