Directed by BAFTA winner Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries, Central Station, On the Road) I’m Still Here won Best International Feature at this year’s Academy Awards.

A very beautiful film about 3 real women and their experiences growing up in a repressive society in Costa Rica. They didn’t want to be filmed so the filmmaker recorded their voices and used actors to portray their memories and stories about life, love and what it means to be a woman. 

The film has been selected for screening by D&G Hand Social Care Partnership Women's Network, who will provide an introduction and lead the post-film discussion.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Swiss Alps, the film’s striking black-and-white cinematography and powerful soundtrack amplify the sense of isolation and mounting tension.

The film will be introduced Caitlin Wallace, a member of D&G Council's Arts & Museum Team. Caitlin is a recent graduate in English and Film Studies and her research interests include the representation of femininity and women on screen. In her essay: ‘Men’s Eyes Were Made to Look, and Let Them Gaze’: Female Desire and Agency in Franco Zeffirelli’s and Baz Luhrmann’s Filmic Adaptions of Romeo and Juliet, she analysed the degree of agency represented in the performances of Olivia Hussey and Claire Danes’ as Juliet.
