The Exorcist - 50th Anniversary (18)

Join us at the RBCFT for a special Halloween screening of the head-spinning adapatation of William Peter Blatty's classic novel.

When a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her daughter.

Directed by visionary William Freidkin (who died in August aged 87) The Exorcist was released on Boxing Day in 1973 and became a huge cultural phenomenon, it became Warner Bros' most succesful film, running for two years in American cinemas. The Exorcist became the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Such was the shock of watching the graphic scenes, some viewers suffered adverse physical reactions, fainting or vomiting.

"On December 26 a movie called The Exorcist opened in theatres across the country and since then all Hell has broken loose." — Newsweek
